Coming Home

Today was our trip back home from Vancouver. Long day, but anything but boring. We had heard people say on the news, at the hotel, and in the newspaper that today would be Vancouver Airport's single busiest day ever and that you should arrive 3-4 hours ahead of time due to the volumes of people. Our flight was at 9am (PST), so we figured if we got to the airport at 6am that would be more than enough (probably too much, but we wanted to eat). Let's break it down....about 30 minutes just to get through the line to print your boarding pass. Just under an hour to get through security (it didnt help that we got stuck in the line behind the Asian guy who didnt understand that coins and belts are made of metal and WILL set the detectors off.....and you have to take your laptop out of its case....oh and he didnt speak a word of english). Then there was the 15 minutes it took to go through customs. All in all it was about 2 hours to go through something that really should have taken an hour, but the best part was the fact that there werent a lot of people there, it was a lack of employees.....but I digress.

At least the airport is very neat inside. It is all decorated for the Olympics. There are all kinds of banners, painted walls, and statues set up for the games.

We mostly slept on the first flight, mixed in with some Price is Right on the Nintendo DS. People were fine. Flight was fine (3 hour flight). Then there was the second flight, the one to get us home. It was a 4 hour flight from LAX, and everything was going fine until this man and his daughter (who did not look 21 at all) decided to have a few adult beverages. He was a bad passenger. Nothing was said personally to us, but it was his actions more than his words. Too many things to mention, but I will name the worst....I dont know if it was a nervous habit or what, but he kept scratching his head (intensely), so when he leaned his seat back, I almost puked as I saw his dandruff flakes flying on to my tray table. I will leave it at that. One good thing though...we watch the movie "Good Hair" while on the flight and we liked it a lot...laughed out loud several times.

Home now, and couldnt be happier. We both had lots of fun, but agree that it's nice to be home.
