Vancouver--Day 1

It has been very sunny and warmer than normal here for just about a week now. Today is our first full official day here together and what is the weather like…..cold and rainy. The forecast for the rest of this week….cold and rainy. Maybe the sun will revisit us this weekend. Our hotel is located in Downtown Vancouver in the heart of everything. It is situated right along the Burrard Inlet and English Bay, and it is literally one block from the IBC (International Broadcasting Center) where all the media stuff is held for the Olympics. The white pointy things at the edge of the picture below are actually sails on the roof of the hotel’s far edge.

If you walk all the way to the edge of the pier (by the sails) below would be your view. It is fantastic view of North Vancouver. This is not the same as Downtown….North Vancouver is located across the water (you must take a ferry to go from Downtown to Northside).

You can see Downtown right from the window of our hotel room. Notice the green roof terrace of the business across the street. Its hard to tell from the picture, but there is also an underground McDonald's....just underneath the flagpoles in the bottom right of the photo.

Guess who we got to meet up with? Jonny and Amanda came to have lunch with us today! They are here working the games and had some time off to come spend with us and enjoy a fantastic lunch!

We are going to Curling and Speed Skating this week, and hopefully get to Stanley Park (when not raining), and the lay of the town. Will update tomorrow.
