On our way to Niagara, we stopped in Buffalo for some gas and grub. TG didn't know that "buffalo wings" actually came from Buffalo, NY, so we decided to go to the restaurant that started it all....Anchor Bar. If you want to read more about this restaurant's story: click here.
The menu also tells the history of the "buffalo wing".
While they do serve things other than wings, why would you get anything else?
After lunch we continued on our way to Niagara Falls. While the sun was trying to make an appearance, it was still very cloudy, so we debated whether or not to just wait until Tuesday to go do the touristy things. We decided to just go ahead and see the park, do Maid of the Mist, and then head over to Canada, that way we didn't have to come back and cross the border later. It was a good thing we decided to do that. Why? As we were pulling in to park, the ticket lady told us that today was the last day for the Maid of the Mist. Starting tomorrow they would close until Spring. Talk about luck!
As the boat first comes around, the falls look just beautiful. The sun just started to come back out and it felt wonderful.
Then the wind starts to pick up, and the mist starts to blow in your face, and you begin to get wet. Thank goodness for the free ponchos!
Then you really start to get inside the falls, with super close views. While this does mean you get sprayed in the face with chilly mist constantly, there are rainbows everywhere!
After the boat ride, we went back up to the top and took some pictures by the falls. The clouds came back, and the temperature started to fall....time to go to Canada.
While some would say that October is not a good time to go to the falls cause it's too cold, and always cloudy, this benefited us. How? Since not many people were there visiting, we were upgraded to a higher room with a wonderful view from the 30th floor of the Hilton (below is the room view, plus glare from the sunset)!
Canadian falls tomorrow....
